About the Artist

Printmaker Monika Crowley is not the first artist to draw inspiration from the kitchen cupboard, Andy Warhol’s 1962 Campbells Soup Cans kickstarted an entire genre of art that pays homage to commercialism and branding. For Crowley it has become a visual language in and of itself, exploiting the ability of nostalgic brands to tap into the emotions these references conjure.

Crowley is a first-class honours graduate of the National College of Art and Design. A 20-year career in design and advertising informs a bold, graphic style, mainly in the medium of silkscreen print-making. Each project begins with a series of photographs as source material, these are deconstructed, then reformed and distilled into visuals with a striking but constrained palette.

As well as the Molesworth Gallery, Monika has shown at the RHA Annual Exhibition, at Higher Pitch in London, at the Ranelagh Arts Centre and at the Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery. Her work is held in many private collections, nationally and internationally. A piece from her most recent series was selected by the Contemporary Irish Arts Society for The Mater Foundation.
