Stellarscape is a conceptual project that refers to the broad concept of infinity. The use of predominantly camera-less photogram technique together with the combination of diverse materials allows for an exploration of both visual and phenomenological abstraction in a bid to render the invisible visible. As a result, the project becomes an investigation into how small, insignificant matter can produce associations with universe landscape. This work is also a reflection on the question of human perception and the nature of representation. The project aims to direct the viewer’s attention towards questioning that which we take for granted, that which is negotiable and what remains open to change.

About the Artist

Beata Cierzniewska (Bielsko-Biala, Poland) is a contemporary photographer currently based in Dublin, where she exhibited her work, including The Gallery of Photography, and where she earned her degree from Research and Practice-based Photography BA (Hons) art program. Her photographic practice relates to the broad disciplines. During her studies, she became engaged in new and experimental ways of producing visual images by introducing into her work elements such as performance, experimental and alternative photographic techniques. In her last project work, Stellarscape interweaves analogue and digital modes of production, where she takes upon the subject of infinity echoing the interest in ontological issues and the value and sense of being. In her projects she is interested in open-mindedness, leaving a room for the viewers for building the meaning and interpreting her visual images.
